Kemble Knight Essays - Sarah Kemble Knight, Knight, Kemble Family

Kemble Knight Sarah Kemble Knight. Journal. Group A: Our group found passages to support the idea that Knight was courageous. On the first day of their journey they encountered a thick swamp On the second day they crossed a river which greatly terrified knight. She goes on to say I now ralyed all the courage I was mistress of ... (now would seem like a good time for a woman from the city to call it quits!) On day three Knight can not cross the river because the water is too high at present so she stays at a little cottage. Knight says, this little Hutt was one of the wretchedest I ever saw a habitation for human creatures. Also on day three Knight says an Indian-like Animal come to the door. If knight is concerned about her safety she doesn't write about it. On December 21 they encounter a great storm of wind and snow. Winter probably wasn't a good time to take a road trip! Group B: By taking her journey, Sarah Kemble Knight proved her self-reliance and independence. Here are a few dates and instances that really stood out in our minds. Oct. 2nd- Knight bribes John to leave with her. Oct. 3rd- She begins to conquer her fear of drowning by crossing the water in a canoe. Oct. 4th- Knight survived the cruel treatment by Mr. Devills and his daughters. Dec. 21st- Knight makes it through illness without much distress. Free Essays on Dave Matthews Band

The Dave Matthews Band formed in Charlottesville, Virginia, in early 1991, when vocalist/guitarist Dave Matthews decided to put some songs he had written on tape. Instead of simply recording himself with a guitar, he opted to bring in some instrumental help to give his musical ideas more depth. Dave found assistance in drummer Carter Beauford and saxophonist LeRoi Moore, who were both accomplished jazz musicians in the local Charlottesville music scene. Based on the recommendation of distinguished local jazz guru John D’earth, 16-year-old musical prodigy Stefan Lessard came on board to play bass. Completing the band was keyboard player Peter Griesar, who left the band after a couple of years, as well as the talented and classically trained violinist, Boyd Tinsley. The first official gig for the newly conceived Dave Matthews Band was May 11, 1991, at a private rooftop party in Charlottesville. Its first public show was at the city’s 1991 Earth Day Festival. Diabetes Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words - 1

Diabetes - Research Paper Example From the statistics presented by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, it is also evident that the minorities that are exposed to diabetes have the high prevalence due to their lifestyles. Diabetes continues to be a disease that has social stigma to those suffering from it as it demands a lot of energy and time and it has long time complications to an individual’s body (Hall, 2011). Diabetes also happens to be a very physical disease that affects major organs in the body. Obese people tend to be more vulnerable to having this disease than healthy people and they struggle to manage this disease in all ways they can. This is mostly caused by the lifestyle these people live, for example, the kind of food they eat, lack of exercise and stress which makes them more vulnerable than others. Casey (2011), states that the factors that determines the outcome of the disease and the final effect that it has on the individual include the lifestyles that the individuals live and the social stigma that the patients undergo. In defining the lifestyles that many patients live in, it is important to mention the economic variable. AHRQ (2012) mentions that, in minority groups, economic barriers and the cultural difference plays an important role in determining the outcome of the treatment that patients are given. Some patients usually face a lot of economic barriers that prevent them from getting insulin treatment and they sometimes do not place their own medical needs before those of family members. Other variables that determine the outcome of the disease include distrust for medical personnel and preferences for other remedies (Fain, 2009). However, one of the most important variables in the management of the disease is the social stigma that the patients face. According to the Center for Disease Control, the social stigma that affects people living with diabetes increases the mortality from the disease (Tessaro,

Why did the United States get involved in the war in Korea In what Term Paper

Why did the United States get involved in the war in Korea In what sense was it an outgrowth of the Cold War - Term Paper Example Cold War is a state of affairs between the former USSR and the USA which are at odds with each other except for the understanding that it is for the best interest of the world that they should avoid direct armed conflict. Instead, they just try to outdo one another in building their armaments and in expanding their allies. The enemy of the USSR became the automatic best friend of the US and vice versa. Whenever the USSR assists another country in the latter’s own conflict, the US immediately goes to the rescue of the enemy of the USSR allies. Stated otherwise, the cold war was a game of chess. The USSR and the US agreed to avoid direct armed fighting and just play chess instead. The world became the chessboard, the Kings were their own countries, the Queens were their atomic bombs, the other officials were their armies and the pawns were the smaller countries like the divided Korea and divided Vietnam among others. The general game plan was to propagate the capitalist-democratic ideology while containing the other’s communist-authoritarian regime. The player is willing to sacrifice his pawns and even officials just to secure the position of the King on the board. And in this game of chess, the North and South Koreas became the opening pawns. The USSR was at first not interested in Kim Il-Sung’s plan of invasion, in the same way that the US was already in the process of withdrawing its troops from South Korea. But when the communist north had crushed the capitalist south, the US executed its game plan and plunged itself into war. The US can never allow communism to gain more space in the world. The US got involved in the war in Korea in order to stop communism from spreading and to protect the capitalism’s position at the peninsula. The National Archives paper has so succinctly puts it, â€Å"Thus, when North Korean troops invaded the South, the Truman administration

Regulation of the Media in the UAE

Regulation of the Media in the UAE Introduction Anyone gaze for an overall depiction of freedom of appearance and the press since the Arab Awakening that started in 2011 may desire to interpret my topicalarticle published in Jadaliyya. The analysis scrutinize the moves taken in Arab countries since the disturbances around the region–particularly the permissible actions taken by governments. The consequence is rather disheartening, predominantly from the country’s that haven’t yet seen any political change. Most of these countries use the subsequent legal methods to threaten journalists and social media activists: unlawful defamation, â€Å"affront the ruler† charges, laws against â€Å"counterfeit communication,† restriction to protect public order, and the licensing of journalists. Years of government terrorization have created a â€Å"culture of repression.† Here is the section about this issue: Nevertheless, perchance the biggest restraint to Arab journalism (and, again, forgive me for speaking in generalities) is the consequence of years of oppression on the profession. Many journalists merely acknowledge that they cannot do their jobs appropriately and have acquiesced to the situation. Others, who have been eminent to positions of authority in Arab newsrooms, have become skillful at censoring the journalists under them. In innumerable discussions with journalists in the Arab world, I’ve heard that editors often do the jobs of government officials by ass assination the stories they sense may grounds trouble. Judiciary closes UAE newspaper: A United Nations human rights connoisseur said on Wednesday that the United Arab Emirates’ magistrates is under the true control of the nations managerial branch, adding that the administration should permit self-governing investigations into declare of distress in the event that it doesnt need its picture to endure. The preparatory discoveries by the UN Special Rapporteur on the sovereignty of judges and lawyers offer an exceptional appear into the Gulf Emirates legal framework. She said she found reasonable cases of prisoner who were detained incommunicado for months, exposed to tremendous temperatures, and now and then electrocuted. The UAE, home to contemporary skyscrapers and soaring international ambitions, prides itself on being a multi-ethnic core with cities like Dubai that draw professionals from around the world. However, several belongings discard luminosity on the strains in the Emirates between cosmopolitan advancement and the nations lawful framework. Numerous fascinate Westerners whose cases are often more exposed than the Emirates’ noteworthy population of South Asians running in construction. A US subject was held for nine months for his position in an online cartoon feature about youth society in Dubai. In an alternate case, a Norwegian woman who reported she had been assaulted was condemnation to 16 months in penitentiary for having sex outside matrimony. Her sentence was ultimately dropped, but the case piercing to wider concern of conventional views on sex and alcohol. Analytical analysis report on freedom of emirate press: Overseas journalists operational in the  United Arab Emirates  maintain that the authorities are roasting press freedom. A senior journalist who has been based in Dubai for the precedent eight years said: Its inferior than its ever been. Reporters at chief news agencies have been told to shun writing pessimistic stories about the UAEs financial system. Two days ago a journalist functioning for Bloombergwas apprehended on entrance a Dubai  airport and, after a two-hour questioning about his work, was warned to be careful. These incidents approaches as the UAE situated on the edge of adopting a new-fangled media law that, according to the New York-based  Human Rights Watch, will dent free appearance. It specifically forbids the magazine of stories that are believed damaging to the nationwide financial system. A British journalist functioning in Dubai who asked me to preserve his anonymity said that the UAE is withdrawing from the preceding and hesitant compress freedom advances of the past.Everything was very well when the cutback was thriving because the stories about Dubai and Abu Dhabi were all positive, he said. Now the depression is revealing stories of commercial dishonesty that engage Emirati officials, and the authorities gaze at that as unacceptable. The senior journalist, an American who also spine on the sympathetic that I would not disclose his uniqueness, agreed. He said There is a separate between a policy aimed at encouraging a free press and the authenticity on the ground. It is consideration that 1,000 foreign journalists are positioned in the UAE. Many of them in employment for the most important agencies, such asReuters, APandAFP.Dow Jonesalone has a staff of 16. Worldwide TV channels, such asCNBC, are also surrounded by the media companies that have congregates to Dubais media city, a business commons set up in 2000, as the sheikdom seemed ready to cuddle western-style freedoms. Journalists now suppose that the proposed law, which is pending presidential endorsement, is an endeavor to row back from previous reforms. It is contemplation to be the consequence of concerns by officials who scuttle the compress narrow body, the national media council (NMC). In a statement posted on the official Emirates, the NMC maintains, the new-fangled draft law symbolize a momentous step forward in terms of compress freedom in the UAE. It bases its disagreement on the information that the law removes all orientation to jail sentences and also lessens the number of offences under the law that can draw financial penalties. However, this cuts modest ice with journalists. It does not eliminate all penalties, said the British journalist. We can motionless be fined for what we inscribe. He clarified that sort out by the NMC is practiced through sacred enlistment and authorizing commitments. On the off chance that we sign up to this law we will be required not to compose anything negative to the national investment. In any case, what are criteria? It would put us in an incomprehensible position. Under the proposed law, fines up to about  £100,000 can be forced for convey misdirecting news that damages the national economy. It additionally incorporates fines of up to  £1m for offending parts of the legislature and the decision gang. Both writers additionally discussed the probability of expanded control toward oneself, asserting that nearby media outlets have constantly abstained from distributed stories that could outrage administering authorities. Presently the powers are going for coaxing universal media into receiving a comparable practice. They likewise indicate the knowledge of The National, the state-claimed broadsheet paper distributed in Dubais neighboring sheikdom, Abu Dhabi that is altered by previous Daily Telegraph supervisor, Martin Newland. Then again, the pair has altogether different notions about the way the paper works. The British columnist accepts that Newland plays a wary diversion with authorities by seeming to maintain limitations however sneaking in material that would be viewed as incendiary. Notwithstanding, the American columnist is far harsher in his judgment. It toes the line, he said. It looks dazzling, giving the presence of being a genuine, upright paper. Then again, would it say it is incredulous of Abu Dhabis imperial crew? Never does it scrutinize the political framework? No. Has it served to make a free media environment? No. â€Å"both columnists likewise accept the UAEs rulers are intensely delicate to feedback in western media. Sanction imposes on newspaper unfair or arbitrary: The daily paper in a report, said the choice is in dissent against the late subjective assents forced on it and its supervisor by the press administrative body, the Conseil National de la Press (CNP). The daily paper additionally blamed the CNP for not releasing its order altogether. The Management of Lintelligent dabidjan wishes to prompt its peruses and accomplices, experts of the division and additionally the overall population, both neighborhood and global, that the daily paper wont show up until further perceive in dissent against the authorizations forced on it by the administrative body which are altogether negligence of the predominating laws, said the report issued and marked by Alafà © Wakili, director and legitimate illustrative of Socef-Ntic, distributers of the daily paper. The CNP on July 25 suspended Lintelligent dabidjan for 12 distributions due to the refusal of Wakili, to conform to the summons of the Council regarding examinations concerning a case including him a nd the previous overseeing editorial manager of the daily paper, Youssouf Tour. As indicated by the administration of the daily paper, the choice to suspend productions is the start of an arrangement of activities and activities went for looking for change for the numerous out of line suspensions. Around twelve media associations and writers have been fined different wholes of cash or suspended in the not so distant future alone. On February, the CNP again suspended the Le Monde d Abidjan daily paper for three months. On the other hand, even before a portion of the daily papers and writers could serve their suspensions or scarcely in the wake of serving it, the CNP on April 14, issued an proclamation suspending Aujourdhui, Soir Info, Le Quotidien dabidjan, (which was banned in January 20, for two months), Le Temps daily papers and the week after week Bà ´lkotch. The MFWA notes with concern the steady fines forced on media associations and columnists in the nation. In as much as the association admires the work of the CNP in bringing proficient norms up in the media, the fines have a capability of cowing the media as it is apparent by the choice of the Lintelligent dabidjan. We consequently speak to the Press Council to reevaluate its approach in managing the unprofessionalism of the media and writers in the nation. We likewise urge writers and media associations to be proficient Positive and negative impact on imposes of criminal penalties on newspaper: Since the mid-1980s, the United States has sought after forceful law authorization systems to diminish the utilization and circulation of illicit medications. The expenses and profits of this national war on medications remain savagely talked about. What is not begging to be proven wrong, notwithstanding, is that this apparently race-nonpartisan exertion has been pursued principally against dark Americans. With respect to their numbers in the overall public and among medication wrongdoers, dark Americans are lopsidedly captured, indicted, and imprisoned on medication charges. Open authorities have been generally untroubled by the lopsided capture and imprisonment of blacks for medication offenses. Their relative impassion and that of the general population everywhere undoubtedly reflects, to shifting degrees, factional governmental issues, extreme on wrongdoing corrective theories, falsehood about medications, an uncritical grasp of medication war rationale, and misinformed ideas about the needs of poor urban groups. Anyhow to some degree it additionally reflects cognizant and oblivious perspectives about race. Undoubtedly, those perspectives have been woven into the exceptionally fabric of American hostile to medication endeavors, affecting the meaning of the medication issue and the way of the reaction to it. Despite the fact that whites are generally untosuguched by against medication endeavors contrasted with blacks, supporters of the medication war may not see an issue of race segregation on the grounds that they dont accept the reason for medication law requirement is to damage blacks-if anything, medication law implementation is seen as ensuring minority groups from compulsion, provocation, and viciousness. Maybe without acknowledging it, they have acknowledged the same meaning of segregation that the courts use in sacred equivalent security cases-truant sick goal, there is no separation. Suggestions for media freedom in UAE: Duffy has worked in organization with the Doha Center for Media Freedom, and the focal point has communicated concerns at his sudden expulsion from his position in the UAE. Executive of DCMF, Jan Keulen said: The UAE security powers have not given any purpose behind the constrained flight of Dr. Duffy. However it appears a chilly wind is blowing in the UAE with the confinement of late of in excess of 50 political activists, the conclusion recently of the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung and other universal NGOs and now the end of Matt Duffy. Its awful news for scholastic flexibility and press opportunity in the UAE, he included. Duffys release and the inquiries it raises have prompted a warmed levelheaded discussion on social networking sites about media flexibility in the district and the estimation of instructive activities, for example, those which the teacher had presented at Zayed college. While numerous have communicated trouble at Duffys takeoff from the UAE, others have talked about the requirement for a slower and more continuous methodology to creating media in the nation and the Gulf area, recommending that the educator may have been pushing excessively hard, excessively soon. Media guard dogs have communicated worries about the legislatures control over the media in the UAE, and a month ago highlighted various instances of writers, bloggers and activists being persecuted in the nation. Conclusion: Duffys discharge and the request it raises have incited a warmed practical talk on interpersonal interaction locales about media adaptability in the area and the estimation of educational exercises, for instance, those which the educator had displayed at Zayed school. While various have conveyed inconvenience at Duffys takeoff from the UAE, others have discussed the prerequisite for a slower and more persistent procedure to making media in the country and the Gulf territory, proposing that the instructor may have been pushing unreasonably hard, too much soon. Media gatekeeper canines have conveyed stresses over the lawmaking bodys control over the media in the UAE, and a month back highlighted different occasions of scholars, bloggers and activists being abused in the country. Essay --

Kelly Cowart 2-21-14 POLS 2301 Dr. Glazier Inequality in America Income inequality has been all over the news as of late and has been pushed to the forefront of the political sphere. Our president even made this issue a major part of his last state of the union address. It is no surprise to most Americans that income inequality is a very real thing that has been steadily increasing since the 1970’s. While the country has been making slow but steady progress on social inequalities, the income inequality has only grown. How can this be? We are one of the richest nations on this planet and the disparity between the rich and the poor is staggering. But is a measure of income inequality an accurate way to assess how well the country as a whole is doing? And is the income gap as bad as it looks on paper? Will an increase in the minimum wage help lift people out of poverty? There are several arguments to this and in this paper I will explore the issues surrounding income inequality and also add in the important factor of social mobility. When we think of income inequality we usually think of big corporations versus the rest of us. We do not typically think that small businesses contribute to this problem as well. But indeed this gap is present in all forms of business big and small because, let’s face it, most business models are based on the capitalist system. Business wants to get the most production for the least amount of cost to increase the profit margin. Most would agree that this is the way America works. This model is great in theory and in practice has obviously worked. But where does it put the workers? Are they able to sustain a living free from dependency on social programs while working for these businesses? Are the b... ...ion of the Affordable Care Act, health insurance for the working poor and the impoverished is now a welcome reality. There are solutions out there to help with the problem of income inequality. Education needs to be more affordable with more opportunity for students and advisors to search out public and private grants and scholarships to help offset the costs of a higher education. Reduction in tax breaks and increases in tax to the top earners would help bridge the income gap. Increases of credits such as the EITC to the working poor to help subsidize income would also help. And finally, political campaign finance reform would help give the poor a loud and relevant enough voice to be heard by all. There are myriad of solutions to the problem of income inequality and these are just a few ideas that could help change the course of this country and its economy.

Date and Observations Essay

1. Write the balanced equation for the reaction conducted in this lab, including appropriate phase symbols.†¨Mg(s) + 2HCl(aq) –> H2(g) + MgCl2(aq) 2. Determine the partial pressure of the hydrogen gas collected in the gas collection tube. †¨The partial pressure of the hydrogen gas is 1.07 atm 3. Calculate the moles of hydrogen gas collected.†¨pv=mrt ; n= .0013mol of hydrogen gas 4. If magnesium was the limiting reactant in this lab, calculate the theoretical yield of the gaseous product. Show all steps of your calculation.†¨0.03184 g Mg(1mol Mg/ 24.3050 g Mg)= 0.0013mols Mg 0.0013mols Mg(1mol H2/ 1mol Mg)= .0013 1. Determine the percent yield of this reaction, showing all steps of your calculation. 2. (actual yield/ theoretical yield)x 100% (0.0013/ 0.0013)x 100= 100% 1. Would the following errors increase, decrease, or have no effect on the calculated moles of gas collected in the experiment? Explain your answers in complete sentences.†¨ a. The measured mass of the magnesium was smaller than the true mass. †¨If the measured amount of magnesium is less than the true amount of magnesium then the measured number of moles would be lower than the measured number of hydrogen would be smaller than the true number of moles of hydrogen. It would decrease the calculated moles of the gas. b. The actual temperature of the hydrogen gas is lower than room temperature. †¨If the actual temperature of hydrogen gas is lower than room temperature then the actual amount of hydrogen gas would be higher than the gas at room temperature. So therefore it would increase the number of moles produce. 2. Explain in terms of particle collisions and Dalton’s law why it can be assumed that the total pressure inside the gas collection tube is equal to the atmospheric pressure outside of the tube. †¨If the number of particle collisions and the pressure inside the gas collection tube was high it would force the water in the gas collection tube to be lower than the surrounding water. If the number of particle collisions and the pressure was low the surrounding water would push the water higher into the gas collection tube. When the water is even, inside and outside of the tube, the number of  particle collisions and the pressure are equal. 3. If an undetected air bubble was trapped inside the gas collection tube, how would this affect your calculated percent yield? Explain your answer. 4. If there was an undetected air bubble trapped in the gas collection tube then the pressure of hydrogen would be lower then the actual value therefore the percent yield would be lower than the actual percent yield.

How to Tell if You Are in a Toxic Relationship

How to Tell if You Are in a Toxic Relationship â€Å"Toxic† is not just the name of a famous song by Britney Spears. It’s also a definition of a relationship that brings destruction and sadness. A toxic relationship is something that people often fall into without realizing how bad the situation is. They usually dont even try to escape this cage. Why? Because of love, affection, or fear. But if you feel unhappy with your relationship, its time to change something, and this article will help you understand if you are in a toxic relationship. Why Is It Important to Exit a Toxic Relationship? We all love love, and we all love being loved back. Thats why sometimes people prefer not to pay attention to little details that might ruin the magic of the world that this person has made up. He or she might not see the influence of the partner and their bad attitude because of a subconscious (or conscious) fear of loneliness. This is what makes a toxic relationship even worse – not all people are ready to end this nightmare. A toxic relationship often causes various mental problems – depression, neurosis, and anxiety alongside with low self-esteem or even suicidal thoughts. A relationship should bring joy, a sense of protection, care, and stability. A toxic partner takes all this away, creating an unhealthy atmosphere. The following are the most common signs that your relationship is slowly destroying you. 1. You Always Feel Guilty Guilt, in general, is a healthy emotion that we face throughout our lives. It helps us understand whats right and whats wrong or how to avoid making mistakes in the future. However, a constant sense of guilt is unnatural and unhealthy as it has a bad influence on your self-esteem and your psychological balance. Does your partner always comment on your actions or the way you look, making you feel like you do everything wrong? Then you should make it stop. 2. You Feel Lonely Even When You Are Together A great relationship means that your partner is also your best friend, someone whom you can talk to about anything in the world, who supports you and cares about you. However, if you feel like you are lonely and not understood even after trying to communicate with your partner, you may be involved in a relationship with the wrong person. If being together with your partner doesnt bring you any joy (and especially if it makes you feel worse than being alone), consider ending this relationship. 3. You Dont Share Much with Your Friends and Family Some partners are just too jealous. It can get so extra that it makes you talk less to the people closest to you. Toxic relationships make people distance themselves from their families and friends, which results in losing the chance to get help from people who know you the best. If your partner presses you to give up contacts with your friends and family, it is truly a bad sign. Ask yourself, why does your partner do that to you? Maybe he or she understands that this way you will become more dependent on your relationship. This is a manipulative move that ties you down and limits your freedom. 4. You Feel Emotionally Drained Not all vampires look like Edward from Twilight. Some of them look just like regular people. Of course, we are not talking about the ones who crave blood but about the ones who actually take your energy and will away. Emotional vampires might seem like a myth, but they do exist. They dont have fangs and dont make you fall into some hypnotic sleep. They just exhaust people around them and make people emotionally weak, suppressed, and dependent. By taking your inner calmness away with scandals, blaming, suspicions, and insults, they make you do what they want. Energy vampires might not look as scary as Dracula, but their toxic influence is as dangerous as sharp teeth of any bloodsucking immortal. 5. You Are Careful with What You Say and Do Are you always afraid of making your partner angry with what you say or do? Do your conversations feel more like tipping on your toes? If instead of expressing your thoughts and feelings genuinely, you have to be very careful with your words, that means that you dont have the kind of emotional bond that has to exist in a really deep relationship. Being with someone means understanding the needs of your partner and their experience. If you cant share what bothers you with your significant other, ask yourself if they are really the one who you should be with. 6. You Give up Things that You Like for Your Partner It doesnt matter what it is that your partner makes you give up (a hobby, a friend, a job), its not a good sign. If you like to dance, sing, meet with your friends, visit galleries, or if you have some other hobbies etc., but have to avoid doing it in order not to annoy your partner, this is one of the surefire signs of being in a toxic relationship. 7. You Dont Have Privacy Does your partner check your phone and emails? Does he or she want to spend all your time together? Is he or she against you spending quality time with your friends? If you can recognize your partners behavior in these questions – consider ending this relationship. If there is no trust in a relationship, there is no future for the couple at all. Think about the joy that you are forced to give up when you are not allowed to do what you want. You are in a relationship where you both are equal in rights, so there can be no â€Å"I dont allow you to do that.† Come on! 8. You Are Forced to Do What You Dont Want To A lot of toxic partners are really demanding, especially when it comes to plans, activities, etc. They usually consider your opinion irrelevant and decide everything for you. For example, if you are going to see a movie together, you might suggest some particular film, but in the end you always go see what you partner wanted. It also might be applied to other spheres of life. For example, sexual, social, professional, etc. If you feel like you have no voice in this relationship, its the time for changes. What to Do if You Are Trapped in a Toxic Relationship? Toxic relationships can rarely be fixed, as there is little to no understanding and willingness to change something. If you feel unhappy with your relationship, try to talk to your partner about your feelings. Comminucation is the key! However, if all of your efforts end up a disaster and your partner stays indifferent, dont blame yourself. Basically, what you have to do in this case is end the relationship with the least amount of damage as possible. Its not always easy, as toxic partners usually are afraid of losing the power they have over another person. Sometimes this might lead to aggressive behavior. So, be careful and try to distance yourself as much as possible. Dont fall for provocations and be strong – they might tell you that you wont find anybody else, that they love you like nobody ever will, or that they cant live without you. Your happiness should be the priority #1, and you can be happy, just believe it.

An Intriguing person George Bernard Shaw Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

An Intriguing person George Bernard Shaw - Essay Example Shaw was asked by one person the reason for not decorating his house with cut flowers. In his reply Shaw stated that ,I do love children very much but I don’t cut their heads and keep them in my drawing room. What a great thinker? This shows the fact that he is extra – ordinary and indeed he loved nature from his heart. Even though Shaw was world renowned person in artistic and literature world, his humble nature and humanitarian attitude is what captivated my heart and soul He was a high thinking man but did not have a university education .He was self taught and had only local school education. He was born as a third child to a corn merchant called George Carr Shaw who was an alcholic. His parents had no money to spend on his education but still George with his intelligence brought about change in his personality and career. He was a world renowned playwrighter and his plays have a grand reptoire attached to it. He was acknowledged with the Nobel Prize in 1923 and that too after many struggling years as an artist. It is very interesting to note that he never accepted his prize money as he thought it was unworthy for him. This humility and humbleness in him have consistently influenced me in my daily life. It is extremely pleasing to notice how valuable and knowledgeable people like Shaw conducted their life with less pomp and luxury. He was an artist by heart and gave much respect and consideration to nature. The most praise worthy aspect of Shaw is that he was a vegetarian .This was an admiring quality in him that attracted me towards him. In the early times the European world was unaware of the spiritual side of being on vegetarian diet and the concept of non – violence. But even then Shaw was voluntarily a vegetarian loved all living beings as his fellow creatures. What an excellent and noble thinking! He is so elevated from his soul to consider all elements of nature precious and worthy of love. He was a lifelong pacifist, socialist an d vegetarian. He was an international icon in his waning years and whatever he said or did was considered with respect and awe by public. Every word delivered by him were considered with great respect and traveled through continents. He was regarded as a profound thinker with immense wisdom and morality. These golden qualities make him an exquisite personality in my eyes. He advocated that our dislike for a certain human being or a person does not give us the right to hurt them or injure them. I believe that every human being have a lot to learn from this noble man who is a genius and a brilliant humanitarian. He was a socialist and defended largely against landlordism, politics, militarism, prostitution, capitalism, hypocrisy and deceit Ironically till his thirty years of age he believed in atheism and judged the doctrines of Church absurd and menaingless. In 1890s, Shaw confessed that he believe n mystic theories and was a believer of cosmic power. This is another point which make him idealistic as I find I have the same values and beliefs .He was never a believer of idol worship and rituals but understood that loving and caring attitude towards living beings means a lot more than loving an unknown identity. He propagated that the life has a meaning and the cosmic power did not make us for nothing. We are supposed to attempt self sacrifice as we are bestowed with intelligence will and determination by the life giving force. The important concepts delivered by Shaw have to be understood and followed by young generation. We have a lot to learn and comprehend from this idealistic man. His thought needs to be pondered upon, analyzed and then practiced in life. Shaw ardently believed that God made us for a purpose and he wanted

Macroeconomics and Microeconomics - Macro4M Essay

Macroeconomics and Microeconomics - Macro4M - Essay Example The measure does not reflect the initial purpose as observed by economic policy makers. In that case, the output presented is not the actual output of the nation. In essence, it cannot tell the policy makers whether the economy produced more goods and services since the measure changes with prices and quantity. On the other hand, real GDP is adjusted for inflation or deflation. It measures GDP in constant prices. As a result, economic policy makers are able to identify the changes in the actual production of final goods (Boyes & Melvin, 2010, p.108). Indeed, it measures the quantity of goods and services a nation produces after eliminating the effects of price changes. Unlike nominal GDP which significantly reflects increased prices, real GDP indicates actual changes in the output. Economic policy makers would be more interested in more goods and services than higher prices in order to evaluate the economic status of the country. In fact, it is better to have nominal GDP rise due to higher output than due to higher prices. Economic policy makers want the nominal GDP to increase because of an increase in real GDP. If economic policy makers were to rely on the nominal GDP in determining national output, they would in many cases make ineffective decision. This is because, the large part reflected in the increasing output is as a result of price fluctuations. The actual output devoid of any influence is most important in national policy making. Therefore, they will always consider real GDP to be the reliable determinant of the output in order to make the most appropriate economic decision. Question two Gross domestic production (GDP) and other national income measure have been considered to be inadequate measure of social welfare (Elizabeth & UMAE, 2007, pp.20-25). This is because GDP measures all consumption, government spending and investments within a country plus exports, regardless of the citizenship of the investors or consumers. This measure counts air pollu tion, cigarette advertising as well as ambulances that clear the ways of bloodshed. It counts environmental destruction and the costs created by inhumane behaviors. The measure includes jails and correction facilities for the people who break the law. However, GDP does not include important social measures such as the health of the people, the quality of education, the beauty of culture, the strength of families. It does neither count the integrity of the leaders nor their intelligence. GDP does not measure the courage or wisdom of the people neither does it measure empathy nor devotion of the people. Essentially, GDP is a measure of many things but does not emphasize on the things that make life meaningful. There are conceptual problems noted with using GDP as a measure of social welfare that can be easily eliminated in order to make it a better measure of social welfare. First, the measure can be tailored to register monetary exchanges as well as social exchanges. Second, it shoul d not include commodities that lower social wellbeing such as weaponry and terrorism costs. The measure should place value on social practices like leisure-time and cultural qualities. Most important, GDP must not ignore the distribution of income and wealth within the society. This might include special consideration of the specific areas that can enhance comfortable living of the citizens such as offering employment opportunities.
